5/28/2024 – Largest economies in each continent.

Each continent’s largest economy by country.

One thing really surprises me about this map, and that is the fact that Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa, and not Egypt.

The reason in particular I find this surprising is the fact that Egypt is home to the Suez Canal, a major part of many trading routs. This canal allows a ship to pass through the red sea to get to Asia instead of having to sail around the entire continent of Africa.

Facts about the countries:

Nigeria

Starting with Africa, Nigeria is the largest economy in said continent. Its population is about 220 million and it has a GDP of $252 Billion USD. It is also the largest exporter of oil and gas in Africa.

Brazil

Moving into South America, we have Brazil, with a GDP of around $3 trillion USD. Personally, I was surprised at how big their economy was. Their main exports are coffee, soy beans, beef and crop-based ethanol.

Australia

You might be thinking, “Australia is an entire continent, of course it’s the biggest economy in the region…”, and this is mostly correct, but it is still part of a region of countries called Oceania. Australia’s GDP is about $1.5 trillion USD, and their main exports are coal, iron ore, gold, meat, wool and wheat.

Germany

Now on to Europe. Germany is a very beautiful country indeed, as well as a very wealthy one. With a GDP of $4.3 trillion USD, it is the biggest economy in Europe, and high on the list of biggest economies in the entire world. Germany’s main exports are vehicles, machinery, chemicals and electrical equipment.

China

Almost done. Moving on to Asia, we have china as the biggest economy. Their GDP is $17.8 trillion USD and their main exports are manufactured goods (Many categories).

USA

Finally, with North America, we have the USA. With a GDP of $25.5 trillion USD, they are the biggest economy not just in North America, but the entire world. Their main exports are cars, refined petroleum, planes, helicopters, spacecrafts, and pharmaceuticals. WOW! Those are some elaborate exports!
